Liberty University’s Alumni Relations Office hosted the first student Homecoming kickoff event on Wednesday, giving students the opportunity to enjoy food, games, and music on the lawn of the Jerry Falwell Library in preparation for Homecoming Weekend 2015. All students who attended were given a Homecoming pennant and other giveaway items.
“This event is a way for us to share the excitement of Homecoming week with our current students,” said Tyler Falwell, director of Liberty’s Alumni Relations Office. “Homecoming is not just about alumni, it is about our entire Liberty family coming together to celebrate. Our students are a very big part of that. We want them to enjoy the Homecoming week, even before we welcome back thousands of our alumni. This weekend, we want everyone to participate and to enjoy themselves at these exciting events we have planned.”
After grabbing a complementary cup of coffee and donut, Joy Hart, a junior, said that this event was a great way to start the festivities.
“I think this is a great opportunity to hype everything up, to make people aware of what is going on this weekend,” she said, noting that she is most looking forward to the Homecoming parade before heading to the football game. “I am looking forward to much excitement and hanging out with friends.”
More than 6,000 alumni attended last year’s Homecoming, making it one of the most heavily attended in Liberty’s history. This weekend, alumni will have the chance to enjoy a family carnival, the Homecoming parade, and a Liberty Flames Football game.
